Our Story
PJ's Pets was founded in 1969 by a visionary entrepreneur who took the retail pet industry to new levels. Never before had a retail pet operation existed of this magnitude. This first store built in September 1969 was the largest pet retail environment of its time in Canada. The philosophy behind the conception of PJ's was inspired by the need for a different type of pet store. A pet store that was clean, bright, spacious, well stocked with the highest quality pets and products available to the public.
PJ's is a private company that is 100% Canadian owned and operated. Employing over 600 people, PJ's supports dozens of Canadian pet product manufacturers, distributors and a select group of Canadian breeders. There are currently 19 PJ's stores in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. In the years since its inception, PJ's business and its principles have exploded in growth.
The overall look of a PJ's Pet Centre has been developed and fine-tuned over the years with an end result nothing short of remarkable. The newer PJ's include state-of-the-art kennels, aviaries, aquariums and enclosures to house our animals and aisles of shelving containing thousands of items, including all of the popular dog and cat food brands.
