Pets are a gift, that shouldn't be gifted.
A Holiday Message from PJ's Pets & Pets Unlimited.
Being a pet parent is an incredibly rewarding experience, but it is also a big commitment. That's why we highly discourage purchasing a pet as a surprise gift for someone.
If you have a friend or family member eager for an animal companion this holiday, consider purchasing a gift card instead.
After the holidays, your friend or family member can visit one of our pet centres and our knowledgeable Pet Care Specialists will introduce them to a variety of pets to help find the right match.
4 things for aspiring pet parents to consider:
- What type of pet is suitable for my lifestyle? You may want a Jack Russell, but are you active enough to meet their exercise needs? Perhaps you find rabbits adorable, but do you have the space and time required to properly care for one? When you visit a PJ's Pet or Pets Unlimited pet centre our Pet Care Specialists will educate you about the needs of different pets and help find the perfect match.
- Is this the right time to bring a new pet home? Pets need stability and routine to feel safe. If you're bringing home a puppy or a kitten, it's a good idea to do so when you have some time off work or when a member of the household will be home during the day for the first week.
- Can I afford to properly care for a pet? Have you considered the cost of feeding your pet and veterinary care? Depending on the type of pet, in the first year they may need to be examined by a vet and receive a series of vaccinations. A puppy or kitten should also be spayed or neutered within the first year.
- Are my living arrangements suitable for a pet? Do you have enough space for the pet you are considering? Most animals don't need a lot of room, but some will require more than others. If you are renting check with your landlord to ensure pets are permitted.
